What Is Idle Breakout
Idle Breakout is an idle clicker built on the classic brick breaker idea. Every brick shows a number. That number is how many hits the brick can take before it breaks. You click bricks to earn money, spend that money on balls, and the balls keep bouncing and breaking bricks while you do other things.
The loop is simple:
- Break bricks to earn money.
- Spend that money on new balls and upgrades.
- Clear the level, then move to a harder one.
- Reset your run for permanent bonuses when progress slows down.
That is the whole game. It sounds small, and for the first ten minutes it feels small. Then the numbers start moving. Your first ball deals single digit damage. Fifty levels later you own dozens of balls, the bricks have thousands of health, and you are buying upgrades in batches. Nothing about the rules changed. Only the scale did.
Where the Idea Came From
Brick breakers are one of the oldest shapes in video games. The original arcade Breakout arrived from Atari in 1976 with rules as tight as rules get. One paddle, one ball, one wall of bricks. Miss the ball and the run ended.
Idle Breakout keeps the wall and throws away the paddle. Without a paddle there is no missing, and without missing there is no failing. So the challenge stops being aim and reflexes and becomes a spending question instead. Which ball, which upgrade, and when to reset everything for something permanent.
Who Made Idle Breakout?
Idle Breakout was made by indie developer Kodiqi and released in 2019. It was built in GameMaker and shipped as an HTML5 browser game, with a Windows build as well. The tags the developer put on it say it plainly: clicker, idle, incremental.
Updates that year reshaped how progression works. One moved the skills menu so it opens at level 75, or right after your first prestige. Another made boss bricks pay out gold. There have been no major updates for a long time now, so the version you play today is effectively the finished one.
How to Play Idle Breakout
New here? These six steps get you a working setup in about ten minutes.
Step 1: Click the Bricks
You start with no balls and no money. Click or tap bricks to damage them yourself. Each brick you break pays you money, and at the start that is your only income. The first level or two are the slowest part of the whole game, so push through.
Step 2: Buy Your First Ball
Once you have enough money, buy a Basic Ball. It drops onto the board and starts bouncing on its own.
Now the game plays itself. Buy a second ball as soon as you can, then a third. Two balls do not just double your damage, they cover twice as much of the board, so bricks in awkward corners actually get hit.

Step 3: Upgrade Damage and Speed
Each ball type upgrades on its own. You pay money to raise its power, its speed, and depending on the ball, how much of the board it covers. Plasma upgrades its splash range. Scatter upgrades how many pieces it breaks into.
Why this matters: Speed is often better value than damage early on. A faster ball hits more bricks per second, and more hits means more money. Damage matters more later, when single bricks have enough health that a fast weak ball just bounces off them.
Step 4: Buy More Balls, Not Just Better Ones
Ten cheap balls usually beat one expensive one in the early game. There is a ball cap, and it starts at 50, so fill it before you worry about perfect upgrades.
The reason is coverage. Upgrades multiply what a ball already does, but a ball that is not on the board does nothing at all. That cap is not permanent either, since raising it is one of the things you will spend gold on later.
Step 5: Use Your Power Ups
Power ups drop as you break bricks. Some boost your balls for a short burst, and one doubles the reward from your next gold brick.
Save the short burst ones for a wall that is already fighting you. Gold bricks arrive every 20 levels, so hold the gold one until you know a gold brick is coming.

Step 6: Prestige When You Stall
Sooner or later a level stops falling. Your balls are at their limit and the wall just sits there. That is the signal to reset.
Prestige trades your run for gold. You go back to level 1 and lose your money and ball upgrades, but the gold stays and buys upgrades that never go away. It looks like throwing away progress. It is closer to the opposite, because gold is the only progress in the game that compounds.
Ball Types Explained
Idle Breakout gives you six ball types, and each one does a different job. You do not need all of them at once. Most players run a big pile of cheap balls plus two or three specialists. full ball guide
| Ball | What It Does | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Ball | Cheap and quick, buys in bulk | Filling your ball count early |
| Plasma Ball | Splash damage across nearby bricks | Packed walls full of low health bricks |
| Sniper Ball | High damage on a single target | Thick bricks, black bricks, and bosses |
| Scatter Ball | Breaks into smaller pieces on impact | Wide coverage when a wall is spread out |
| Cannon Ball | Heavy damage in a blast | Raw damage once you can afford them |
| Poison Ball | Bricks keep taking damage after the hit | Long fights against high health bricks |
The best early setup is a stack of Basic Balls with Plasma Balls behind them. Plasma clears crowds, and Basic Balls are the cheapest way to get your ball count up.
Later that changes, and it changes because the bricks change. Walls stop being wide fields of weak bricks and start holding a few very tough ones. Cannon Balls take over as your main damage, Sniper Balls become the answer to anything with a big health bar, and Poison earns its place because damage that keeps ticking is worth more against a brick that takes many hits to kill.
Black Bricks and Boss Bricks
Two brick types change how you play, and both show up once you are past the early game.
Black bricks appear from around level 100. They are tougher than normal bricks and they have to come down last, so a wall is not finished until they are. They get more common and much stronger the deeper you go. Every black brick you break also pays 1 BB, and BB is what buys your way into a boss fight.
Boss bricks are single bricks with huge health, and beating one pays you a skill point. You start these fights from the Skills tab, and entry is not free. The first one costs 1,000 BB, and every boss after that costs another 1,000 on top. Later bosses also bring the earlier ones back with them, so a boss fight is really a queue of fights.
Sniper Balls are the standard answer to both. They pick one target and stay on it, which is exactly what a black brick or a boss needs. Lasers are the exception worth knowing about, since bosses ignore them until a skill removes that immunity.

Skills and Skill Points
The skill tree opens at level 75, or right after your first prestige if you get there sooner. Skill points come from beating boss bricks, which means black bricks come first. No BB, no boss fight, no points. visit here to full guide Skills point in idle breakout
There are 24 skills in total, grouped by ball type. A few sit outside those groups and change the game more broadly. One multiplies what you earn while the game is closed. Another lets you keep black bricks through a prestige, which is worth more than it sounds, since anything that survives a reset outlives the upgrades that do not.
Prestige and Gold Upgrades
Prestige in Idle Breakout is how you get past a wall you cannot beat. You reset back to level 1 and lose your money and ball upgrades. In return you keep gold, and gold buys permanent upgrades.
Gold comes from gold bricks every 20 levels, and bosses pay gold as well. So the question is never really whether to reset. It is how many gold bricks you can reach before your run stalls.
There are five permanent upgrades to spend gold on:
Ball Power Multiplier is the one to build toward, because it is the only upgrade that scales with everything else you buy.
How to Save Your Progress
Your save lives in your browser. That means no account and no waiting, but it also means clearing your site data will erase it. The game gives you an export code so that never becomes a problem.
How to Export and Import
The code is one long string holding your entire run, so it has to be copied in full. A single missing character and the import will not load.

Export your code every time you finish a long session. It takes five seconds and it is the only real protection your run has.
Play Online, Free and Full Screen
The game runs in any modern browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera all work. There is nothing to install and no account to make. You can start playing in the time it takes this page to load.
8 Tips to Level Up Faster
Fill your ball count before you perfect your upgrades
The cap starts at 50, and a ball that is not on the board is doing nothing.
Do not spread money across every ball type
Six half upgraded ball types are weaker than two fully upgraded ones.
Keep Sniper Balls for the hard targets
Black bricks and bosses have one big health bar. No amount of coverage replaces a Sniper.
Save your 2X Gold for a gold brick level
Gold bricks come every 20 levels. Using the boost anywhere else throws it away.
Prestige earlier than feels comfortable
If a level takes more than a minute, your gold is worth more than your current run.
Finish one skill line at a time
Points come slowly because each one costs a boss fight. Concentrated points do far more than scattered ones.
Let it run
Progress continues while you are away. Check in, spend the pile, leave it again.
Turn the graphics down when the board fills
Fifty balls plus effects is a lot of animation for a school laptop.

Final Thoughts
The game rewards patience more than fast clicking. Fill your ball slots, put your money behind two ball types instead of six, and reset as soon as a level starts dragging. That path gets you deep into the game faster than any amount of manual clicking.
One last thing. Export your code before you close the tab. Every player who lost a long run learned that lesson the hard way, and it takes five seconds to avoid.
